Post Six: Haystacks

We’ve skipped ahead from 1930s to the 1960s with Haystacks.

After last weeks baking mishap, I made certain to throughly read through the ENTIRE recipe before getting started.

We skipped to Haystacks because they seemed a simple no bake dessert we could make while on vacation. It only required 4 ingredients!

I wanted to get my kids back into the kitchen and FaceTime with my friend in Seattle, so we were more conscious of timing this week too.

Given that this is a no bake minimum prep dessert, it was the perfect opportunity to get the kiddos to help!

We had fun improvising in a kitchen that isn’t ours, not knowing where supplies were and all in all having fun! Luckily this is a forgiving dessert, so we had high hopes this would turn out!

I absolutely love watching chocolate melt, it smells so dreamy!

I made the Haystacks too big! But beyond that they were a hit! They were simple to put together and would make a nice addition to a holiday cookie tray.

During my husbands recent deployment we were able to text and video chat frequently. My friend who I’m baking “alongside” lives in Seattle, we are on bookends of the country. In another era, it would have been more challenging to have her be a part of my children’s lives. But thankfully with the proliferation of technology we are able to maintain meaningful relationships from afar.

This week, while my family was on vacation in Delaware we were able to FaceTime with our friend in Seattle and tried our Haystacks together.

So until next time, Happy Baking.
