Post Ten: Christmas Crack

A few simple ingredients…..saltines, butter, brown sugar and chocolate.

I had worked all day at the Children’s Hospital, by the time I got home and helped get the kids to bed it was nearly 8pm and I had missed several texts from my Seattle friend saying this was super easy to put together!

So I figured why not?!?

As I was laying out the saltine crackers, my husband joked about the number of recipes that called for crackers of some sort, I suppose it was true! But they’re such a versatile cracker, salty, buttery, light.

The caramel sauce topping was super easy to put together too, just a matter of moments.

Next comes the fun step of pouring the boiling hot caramel over the saltines. Then baking for 7 minutes.

Once you take this out of the oven, you sprinkle chocolate chips in a single layer over the top. I used a combination of dark and bittersweet chocolate because that’s what I had on hand.

You can choose to decorate the top with sprinkles, candies, nuts. My friend put flaked sea salt on hers, which would have been my first choice too. But given I have 2 small kids, I went with a child staple…..SPRINKLES!

And Halloween ones too, may as well celebrate the spooky season!

Waiting for this to cool was the hardest part! After letting it cool on the counter I finally put in in the fridge.

Overall, this was a great treat. A little goes a long way. It is super sweet. There’s definitely a lot of ways to play with the flavor profile too.

Until next time, Happy Baking!
